    Our 6th annual Vancouver World Chef Exchange! We’ve reached out to our friends in the Indigenous culinary community and have invited them to Vancouver. The result? Canada's Indigenous culinary best join us for a series of delicious dinners inspired by traditions, by the land, and by the sea.

    About Chef Sheila Flaherty

    Sheila is the chef and founder of sijjakkut, a 100% Inuit-owned company that prides itself in the preservation and promotion of Inuit culture through inuksiutit menus. Sheila has shared menus in Iqaluit, Ottawa, Toronto, and New York City. She has been a Resident Chef at the National Arts Centre and also collaborated in a New Arctic Kitchen event in Nuuk, Greenland.

    Shortly after making Iqaluit her home in 2010, Sheila started working with the delicate and unique flavours of Inuit foods to create delicious fusion dishes that her husband, Johnny hunted and harvested. Through his expertise, Sheila has become a proficient hunter and harvester. She quickly discovered a demand for inuksiutit menus and has been catering local events since 2011.

    Sheila’s participation in MasterChef Canada Season IV catapulted her passion for inuksiutit dishes to a national audience. She has been featured in the Globe and Mail as one of the top emerging chefs in Canada, was most recently featured enRoute Magazine’s Annual Food Issue, as well as a Chatelaine article and has contributed recipes with Chatelaine and The Kit. From Iqaluit, she has appeared in Chuck and the First Peoples’ Kitchen, Moosemeat & Marmalade, and two NHK productions.

    Sheila is Inuvialuk and is enrolled in the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement

    Salmon n’ Bannock Bistro is Vancouver's only First Nations restaurant. They specialize in wild fish, free-range game meat, and of course bannock, freshly baked daily. They use traditional ingredients that are prepared and presented in a modern way.
